Arg Notes #29: Church Music Team

February 03, 2013

Sunday morning. Worship service.

This is the place I usually spend my mornings with. The chapel.

For  almost a decade, I've been part of our church's music team and I have seen people dedicate their talents for this kind of  ministry. Sadly, most of them chose to serve the world instead of playing music in the narrow road.

Young people are fond of making music. Exactly of the reasons why they are the most "eligible" people to play music in the church. Their talent is needed. However, is it really enough?

I remember my "maestro". He used to teach me to lead congregational singing while playing guitar. It's not how you play your guitar, but how you lead the congregation in singing. Don't just play from the heart, but play with wisdom and Godly inspiration. No matter how you play well, your music will be just a clanging cymbal in His ears if you will play with pride and a boastful heart.

You play music because you WORSHIP him through it.

I still remember those years when I'm still inspired to play with my heart, my soul, and Him as my inspiration.

Presently, our Church's music team is now composed of the fourth generation of musicians.
I 've been taught by my uncle and Master Leo Nebrija. I taught Rodelson Cua and  Josh Nalian. Rodelson taught Kiel Mariano & Jerome Canosa.

The quality of worship by the congregation is greatly influence by how the music team lead them. Its not based on the size of the band or how complete your instruments are. It's not also based either your placed in front of a large crowd,an elegant stage, or only at the corner of your small chapel.
It's based on how you lead them to worship.

Most youth's are getting bored with this. You know playing solemnly. Guitar -plucked only background music during breaking of bread and lineups full of church hymns.

It's quite boring for an immature musician. However, imagine playing in front of a King? How will you play your instrument? Will you play just to perform? or to please?

This is one of the main problems of any music team.

It's the HEART.

You play because you are NEEDED. You play because you think it's only a form of "jamming". You play because you are told to. You play well because you think it will please the listeners. Your motivation is on everyone's approval.

Most of us forget that we play because we worship - and as we worship, your talent will follow and you will begin to play in a worship mode.

Take note. Your quality of "playing" will either positively or negative affect the congregation as they worship.

Take heart. Examine your hearts. Play with wisdom. Perform for the Lord.

Audience of ONE.

Arg Notes #11: What to thank God for.

Junior Youth Fellowship

My heart melts every time I see the faces of these young people. As a young leader striving to serve the kingdom of his beloved master, hardships and trials is inevitable - and yet God has been so faithful to bless me strength and divine encouragements.
Discipleship Group 2
Discipleship Group 1

I am the youth leader of these kids and young teens and to be honest - it's an honor to serve my Master with this ministry.

In the absence of partnerships and needed encouragements, I am still standing and surviving in order to lead this heavenly troops.

If you're a youth worker, a bible study group leader, or in any kind of ministry inside the church - and you feel like giving up,  think why the devil is giving that much effort to pressure and discourage you. You have the heart of a leader. God has chosen you and the growth of His kingdom depends on your ability to entrust your life on his faithfulness and grace.

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Deuteronomy 31:8 It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Psalm 9:9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;  your rod and your staff,  they comfort me.

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Why is maturity important for people in a relationship?

May 07, 2012 14:26

#1 Fact: Being in "love" will always be the best feeling in the world - next to winning a 100M Jackpot in Lotto
#2Fact: The moment you are in-"love", the heart always get the control and decision making instead of having the heart -and- mind tandem
*for a mature person, this characteristics does not apply

Why is maturity important for people in a relationship?

I wanna quote this description of Osho of how maturity either destroys or prolong a relationship. This words pointed a gun on my face and smashed my immature stand against love relationship. Take note of the phrases in bold format.

“Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s
freedom, create a bondage, make a prison.
Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help
each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when
love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love
flows with dependence there is ugliness."

You're supposed to help each other by being a lifetime partner, not a lifetime mocker. There are words we say that often hurts the feeling of our partner and most of the time it becomes the destroyer of trust between couples. Jesus Christ has the best example of love - unconditional love for His children and also willing to die for them amids their sins and hardness. There must be love- an unconditional love whose goal is to strengthen each other. Immature people think only of themselves and they're partners being like an object that can be replaced, set aside, and even throw away whenever she/he likes. Selfishness is immaturity and immaturity is ugliness inside a relationship.

"A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises
in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and
fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and
standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand.
They were always ready to fall on the ground and to
creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they
don’t have the integrity to stand alone."

A good love relationship is all about having a good foundation. What's the purpose of loving a girl and yet your not sure if she's the one? Or should we say that the girl is not that sure if she can have a lifetime with a guy like you? Standing together is the best part of love. You can prove how much they love each other by the times they fall- and yet stand together.

A mature person has the integrity to stand alone.
And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives
without any strings attached to it. When two mature
persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life
happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are
together and yet tremendously alone. They are together
so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in
love help each other to become more free. There is no
politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate.
Only freedom and love.”

True love has equality between partners. If one is more matured than the other, then he/she must take effort to help the other grow. The two must grow in love and respect - that would mean a growth for both of them. Both must be strong enough to cater the needs of the other and no domination should be implemented. A mature person will always try his best to help the other grow in maturity, however the other one must not take it for granted.

Top 4 lies the devil is telling you

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 4:31-32, 5:1-2

God wants you to be happy in life. He wants you to experience every success in life. However, beyond every person's understanding, He won't give you everything you want- because He loves you so much. He wants us to trust Him with our eyes of faith and to rely our hopes not on material things. He wants us to set our joy on things above and not on things here in earth. You only have one life and so soon it will pass.

So how do you plan to live your life? You can't bring neither your bank account or gold bars nor your chocolate covered house in the afterlife. Everything will soon come to pass. What satisfies our body is momentary pleasure. How about live a life worth living- Like being happy throughout life and enjoying every grace God is giving you?
